The Chicago Headline Club Foundation, a charitable organization created by the local professional chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, offers two $3,000 scholarships for journalism students doing unpaid summer internships in the Chicago area.
Chicago Headline Club Foundation scholarships are available to any college student who has secured an unpaid summer internship of 21 or more hours a week in professional newsroom in the Chicago area. Candidates are assessed by a committee of the Headline Club and evaluated on their previous experience, clips, cover letter and an interest in pursuing a career in journalism.
Each scholarship will provide $3,000 to defray the living expenses of a collegiate journalist during his or her unpaid summer internship.
Student must intern with a Chicago-area media organization (print, broadcast or online).
Applicant must be a current college student (no recent graduates).
Internship must be at least 21 hours a week for at least 8 weeks between May and September.
Internship must be unpaid and student must be able to verify internship.
The Headline Club established the intern scholarships in 1999 in memory of Kathy McClelland and Mary McAndrew, Chicago journalists who died that year.
Neither the Chicago Headline Club nor the Chicago Headline Club Foundation is responsible for placing students in internships.
